Placating the masses

Okay, to satisfy the requests I’ve gotten, here is a little video of the inside of the new house. Nothing special, and really…the video sorta sucks, but all I had access to was my digital camera, which luckily had a video function. I need a larger memory card. Santa take note.

On a side note, my camera saves videos as .mov files…boo.

David and Goliath

Well, the move is 80% done. We are now living in the new house, all the furniture is there, and almost all the plain old crap. Still a lot of cleaning to do at the old house. But the real story is the cat. My precious little Isis. Little Isis managed to drop me. A frickin’ house cat rolled me to the floor and kicked my ass. See, my parents have my pet carrier right now, which forced me to move Isis without one. We got her into the truck with only a little effort. She didn’t like that one bit, but she managed. The problem came when trying to get her into the house.

Naturally, I forgot the advice my grandmother had given me a few months ago when trying to get a cat to do something that it doesn’t want to: wrap it in a towel from the neck down. Instead, I tried to carry her (away from my body at least). She got one foot on the doorframe and it was off to the races. I have never seen a domesticated cat go into a fight or flight response like this in person. Needless to say, she’s inside now by the sheer grace of Buddha. While I was writhing and fending off her attack on the floor, I was able to kick the door shut. I am nothing but bruises and cat scratches head to toe. And not little playful scratches. She caught my wrist about a half inch from the artery. She cut me on the arms and under the armpit. My back was waylayed. And she managed to carve out two puncture holes in my shoulder in a last ditch effort to launch herself away.

She had forgiven me enough by the end of the night to come out from under the bed for some pets. I’m certainly still paying for my judgment today though. Live and learn kids.

I need bolt cutters!

One thing that moving into one’s own house will teach you, is just how much stuff you don’t have because you’ve been renting.  I need a pair of bolt cutters to open my garage (don’t ask).  I hate to buy something I’ll likely use only once, but I’ve never needed them before.  Unfortunately, it seems many people agree, which makes it hard to borrow said tool when no one else buys them either.  So do me a favor, go buy some bolt cutters so that I can borrow them from you.  While you are at it, a scroll saw, a drill press, a table saw, and a chop saw would be SUPER.

Luckily, my power gets turned on tomorrow, so I can start more pressing work, like laying the new kitchen floor and filling in a couple doors.  This time of year light is working against me since it’s already getting dark when I get off work, so not being able to turn lights on inside the house sure is problematic when there’s no ‘lectricity.  My list of to-dos is currently a mile long, and I’d be lying to say that I’m not feeling a little pressed for time.  The fact that I’m losing 3 days because of Thanksgiving certainly doesn’t help.

I’m having problems laying down my timeline.  Usually I’m very good scheduling.  I have to be out of my current place by the first, but I still need gas and water turned on obviously.  Plus the work I need to find time to do.  Then there’s getting hands together to move my big furniture.  I really hate moving.  Getting done seems so far away.  I just hate sacrificing

Luckily, I just checked my vacation balance, and it seems that I have plenty of vacation time so that I could take a day or two off if I have to next week.  That seems like it would help substantially.  I feel better now.  A little.  Look me up after my head explodes.

It’s kinda a big deal

Welcome to all my Facebook and MySpace friends. Glad to see you found your way here all right.

I can now, officially, say that I am a homeowner. And by homeowner, I mean I am in debt until 2032 and will pay back a total of better than $98,000 on the loan I took out to buy my house. But by god, I have land, and walls, and a roof, and keys, and no one can tell me what I can and can’t do with it besides Michaele (well…I’d take that under advisement anyway, heh) and the local laws.

I have a little work to do here and there to fix stuff up how I’d like it, otherwise it’s been a fun trip. I can honestly say that I have never in my life signed so many papers at one time though. Surprisingly, I understand what pretty much everything was that I signed. Once we are moved in completely (after Thanksgiving), drop me a line to drop in and visit.

That’s one more stressful hurdle done for the year though. I can finally look forward to a little relaxation (in a home with central heating) this winter. This fall has been a trip, let me tell you. The fact that I can get back to a little blogging is probably the best sign. I’ve also updated my CeltX Project Central a little in preparation of some new writing. I’m feeling more inspired. It helps that I’ve read a crap ton of books lately walking to and from work. Too bad I’ll lose that time since I will now live far enough from campus that I’ll have to drive.

Anyway, how are all you doing? I have neglected too many friends lately. Leave some comments on how things are going for you!
