Shenanigans

Published on July 23rd, 2006 in No Comments »

Friday night was a good time.  Spent most of the night (early morning) out at a Christmas in July party.  There was abundant food, which was a good place to start.  Good friends, which is a good place to continue, and a gift exchange, which is agood place to finish.  Apparently this is a yearly thing, though this is the first time I’ve had the chance to take part.  I was warned ahead of time that the gift exchange (which takes place after all the kiddos get get booted out) can get somewhat raunchy.  I can handle that.  What did worry me was that right before we did it, the additional stipulation that you had to model anything apparel that you got…that one had me a little worried.  As it turned out, it was far tamer than I had been led to believe…at least this year.  Mine was really more of a grab bag of innocuous articles.  Although there was a litle bungie cord in it that I might save for…later.

I cracked up at the gift I brought though.  I didn’t really have enough time to go hunt down a gift or anything, so I mostly just grabbed a box and filled it with stuff.  Like anything I could find.  I will try to itemize it all for you:  a 2003 phonebook, 2 candles (unused), a mini shoeshine kit (made in China), a hat, a picture of me (unsigned), a 30 year old bottle of some random wine (unopened and very undrinkable), a book light, a blank CD, an army hat, and a Pizza Hut reciept.  I think that’s everything.  It was funny because as she pulled the stuff out, it was like the bottomless box of uber-crap.  I couldn’t hardly keep my composure with the CD though:
Sarah: "Is there like music or something on it?"
Me: "No, it’s blank!"
Granted, this isn’t nearly as funny reading it and I recognize that and am sorry, but at the time I thought it was hilarious.  So did most everyone.  Next year will be even better though.  I will begin taking suggestions any time.

So I went to see Clerks II last night.  I believe I mentioned a while back reading a review that nearly put the fear of god in me with regards to this movie.  I have now decided to call shenanigans on the site that wrote it though.  If you really feel the need read it, go here.  Having seen it though, I think the article was either a joke, they saw a different film, or they’re just complete idiots.  My money is on one and three.  Yes, both of them.  In reality, the site has almost no reviews on it, but I didn’t bother checking that originally.  So, shenanigans.  Shenanigans, shenanigans, shenanigans.  Cruel and tragic shenanigans.  I blame Shannon, she showed the "review" (shenanigans) to me originally.  The movie was great.  Was it the first one?  No.  Was it awesome anyway?  Yes.  Go see it, I shant spoil anything for you right now.

I really like Madden 2006.  In case you were wondering.

Surrealism and You

Published on May 28th, 2006 in No Comments »

Well, this weekend was a mixture of things.  I’m gonna have to say all good, some awesome, some unexpected, but rolled together, a shockingly welcome departure from the normal.  Mostly it was just this odd mixture of events that seemed, at least to me, a little unexpected.  One might call it surreal.  Except that’s not the right term.  But it made for a catchy subject, so we’re going with it.

I went out to Twisters for the second time Saturday night.  I do have to grant that it wasn’t as bad as the first time.  And Rachel and Amanda were fun to hang with, especially once they were drunk, heh.  Of course, we got out there only to realize that my dumb ass left my ID in my car back in town.  Sometimes my brilliance defies myself.  Or itself…you get the idea, I’m an idiot.

I spent today hanging mostly with Amanda.  Damn good time.  Got some tennis in, even if it was a little on the brutally hot side, and I picked up the director’s cut of Donnie Darko and Mars Attacks.  Best part, I got Donnie Darko for $6.99, which is a damn good deal for the director’s cut.  I forgot just how much of a mind fuck that movie can be.  Awesome.  Ooh, there were also sno-cones at one point, and I found a zen garden at the Dollar Tree for a $1!   They had some other little deals I want to go back for too.

Time for bed.
